In honor of Technion alumnus Raphael (Rafi) Mehoudar, who graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1966, a center for innovators and inventors was opened on Israel’s 67th Independence Day. As an engineer, Mehoudar has promoted the worldwide use of the drip irrigation system. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technion in 2014 and has now inaugurated the center named after him together with President Sivan and Past-President Lavie. Over 1,000 m2 of laboratory space is available in the Danziger building, which was built in 1966 next to the Department of Mechanical Engineering and has now been refurbished as an innovation laboratory. Here, all technology enthusiasts in Israel, from interested students to experts, can try out their ideas. They have trained engineers from the Technion at their side and also learn from interdisciplinary teams of scientists from the university working at the center.
