Technion scientists reveal security vulnerabilities in Siemens’ device software

At the “Black-Hat Hacker Convention” taking place in Las Vegas, Technion scientists led by Prof. Eli Biham and Dr. Sara Bitan from the Technion Hiroshi Fujiwara Cybersecurity Research Center will present their success in penetrating an ET200 SP Open Controller, CPU 1515sp of the Simatic S7 series from Siemens. Master’s students Maxim Barsky, Alon Danker and Idan Raz were also involved. The results of the study have already been made available to Siemens. Thanks to its innovative cryptographic mechanisms, the S7 PLC is one of the supposedly best-protected operating systems, which is also used to protect critical infrastructure.
